How Health Connect Works & Your Privacy

Japan Walk Nomad reads step counts only, in read-only mode, from Android's "Health Connect." It never accesses your GPS location. Here's exactly how your data is handled.

Steps are read from Health Connect — read-only

Japan Walk Nomad reads step data recorded in "Health Connect," Android's built-in health data platform, in read-only mode, and converts those steps into virtual travel distance on the in-app map. The app never writes to or deletes any data in Health Connect.

No GPS location or movement history is ever collected

The in-app map is purely a representation of a "virtual journey" based on your step count. The app never uses your phone's GPS to record or use your actual location or real-world movement history.

No account required, no ad or tracking SDKs

There's no sign-up with an email address or password — you can start using the app right after downloading it. The app does issue an anonymous identifier internally to manage usage limits, but it's never linked to your name or email address. There are no ad SDKs, and no analytics or tracking SDKs that collect behavioral logs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I revoke Health Connect access later?

Yes. You can check or revoke the data access permissions you've granted to Japan Walk Nomad at any time, either from Android's standard Health Connect app or from your phone's Settings.

Q. Will my data carry over if I switch phones?

Your step records, travel history, and earned badges are stored on your device, but if Android's standard automatic backup feature is enabled, signing in with the same Google account on your new device and reinstalling the app will automatically restore your data.

Q. What if I haven't installed the Health Connect app?

Since there'd be no source for step data, you'll see a prompt on first launch guiding you to set it up. Once you enable Health Connect (built in on many Android devices, or free to install), your steps will start being recorded.
